Caldwell Student-Athletes Named National Players of the Week

Two student-athletes from Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute were named division three players of the week in their respective sports by the National Junior College Athletics Association on Wednesday.

Breon Ishmael (baseball) and Ashley Antonio (softball) earned the recognition for their performances during the week of March 13-19.

Baseball Player of the Week

Ishmeal, an outfielder, hit .667 in two games with three triples, one double, and five runs scored.

He helped lead the Cobras to a 9-1 victory over Patrick & Henry on March 14 and a 15-0 victory over Catawba Valley on March 16. For the season, Ishmael is batting .459 with six homeruns and 37 RBI.

The baseball team is 19-2 overall and on a current 15 game winning streak.

Softball Player of the Week

In a doubleheader against Gaston College on March 14, Antonio hit .667 with two homeruns, a double, a four RBI. Caldwell won game one of the doubleheader 12-6 before falling in the second game 8-0.

In limited action the season due to injuries, Antonio has recently returned to the lineup and has a total of six RBI while batting .294.

The softball team is currently 14-12 on the season.
