Heating & Air Conditioning (HVAC)

Heating/Ventilation/Air conditioning Technicians install, maintain, and repair these systems in residential and commercial establishments.

Program Information

The program consists of three courses that build upon the knowledge and skills learned in the previous course.

  • Introduction to HVAC
    • This course serves as the entry-level requirement for all other courses in the HVAC Program. The curriculum focuses on:
      • Basic carbon steel piping practices
      • Basic copper and plastic piping practices
      • Basic electricity
      • Introduction to heating, cooling, and air distribution systems
      • Introduction to HVAC
      • Soldering and brazing
      • Trade mathematics
      Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of a basic HVAC system.

  • Intermediate HVAC
    • This course will build upon the skills learned in the Introduction to HVAC course. This course will focus on:
      • Air quality equipment
      • Alternating current
      • Basic maintenance
      • Chimneys vents and flues
      • Commercial airside systems
      • Compressors
      • Fiberglass and fabric duct systems
      • Heat pumps
      • Introduction to hydronic systems
      • Leak detection, evacuation, recovery and charging
      • Metering devices
      • Refrigerants and oils
      • Sheet metal duct systems
      You will have the opportunity at the end of class to sit for the EPA Section 608 exam.
  • Advance HVAC
    • This course will continue building upon the skills in the Intermediate HVAC Course. This course will focus on:
      • Fasteners
      • Hardware and wiring terminations
      • Control circuit and motor troubleshooting
      • Troubleshooting:
        • Accessories
        • Cooling units
        • Ductless and variable refrigerant flow systems
        • Gas heating
        • Heat pumps
        • Oil heating
        • Refrigeration Systems
        • Zoning
