Career Readiness is the addition of classroom activities that help prepare students for their future careers. It is included in all program areas in Transitional Studies/Adult Education. Two important aspects of Career Readiness are the Career Pathways and Integrated Education and Training programs.
Improving academic skills, learning English, or earning a high school equivalency or diploma are great achievements in themselves, but they can also be stepping stones to a future career. All students will benefit from Career Readiness activities in their classes. The Career Pathways program specifically helps students transition into college, and they may finish college sooner since they take college classes while also taking high school credential classes. Students in this program can receive extra support from a Transition Advisor dedicated to assisting them with college enrollment. Through the Integrated Education and Training program, students take Transitional Studies/Adult Education classes that include workforce preparation activities, while taking workforce training classes at the same time. They may apply for a scholarship to potentially help cover the cost of the workforce training class.
All students are eligible to participate in Career Readiness activities in their Transitional Studies/Adult Education classes. To enroll in the Career Pathways program, students must have a reading grade level equivalent of 10th grade or above. Eligibility for Integrated Education and Training classes depend on each job training program requirements.
The class schedule changes due to demand, but classes are generally available mornings and evenings, on-campus and at off-campus locations. For a current class schedule, please call 828.726.2230.
Applicants for programs on the Caldwell campus should call 828.726.2230 to pick up an enrollment packet, take a reading and math assessment, and to make an appointment with an advisor to start the registration process. Watauga applicants may call 828.297.8120 to receive enrollment and registration information.
