CCC&TI to Offer Extreme Super Summer Camps

This summer, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will bring back Extreme Super Summer Camps for kids ages 5 and up.

Super Summer Camp sessions are offered on the Caldwell Campus with students separated into different age groups to allow each program to be customized with age-appropriate activities. Cost for each Super Summer session is $100, except where noted, and includes early drop-off, late pick-up and a snack.

Following is the Extreme Super Summer Camps schedule:

Basic Car Care 101 (Ages 12 and up)

June 19 to July 23; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

Students will learn how to check tire pressure, change a tire, install brakes, check the oil, change and refill automotive fluids, inspect engine hoses and belts, jumpstart a battery, use car lifts and jacks, build an emergency kit and perform other minor quick fixes. The sessions will be taught by a licensed automotive service technician/instructor in the automotive lab.

Cosmetology Beauty Camp (Ages 8 and up)

June 26 to June 30; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or
July 17 to July 21; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

This camp introduces students to the world of cosmetology. Students will learn fundamental principles of hair styling, makeup application, skin and nail care and product knowledge along with other beauty tips and trends. The session will be taught by a licensed cosmetology instructor in the salon lab.

Little Bots (Ages 5-8)

July 10 to July 14; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

Students will be involved in interactive, hands-on activities that include creating, designing and constructing robots, cars and eco jewelry. Through this process, students will learn how to create and maintain an engineering notebook while learning about the engineering design process. Students will discover how they interact with robots daily and can make their own creation.

Babysitting Skills 101 (Ages 11 and up)

July 10 to July 14; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

Students will learn basics of proper childcare including safety skills, child behavior, diaper changing and bottle feeding. Students will make an activity bag filled with projects and games they can take along to babysitting jobs.

Bigger Bots (Ages 9 and up)

July 17 to July 21; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

Engineering Camp (Ages 9 and up)

July 24 to July 28; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

Students will learn to think like engineers while building critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills. This camp will teach students how engineering is applied in the real world, and how it’s shaping the future. Students will get to design, create and produce 3-D products just like an engineer by making things like rockets, bridges and more. Additionally, students will tackle a variety of engineering challenges each day. This program is ideal for students considering a career in engineering, as well as for those that are curious to learn more.

Basketball and Martial Arts Camp

July 24 to July 28; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

In this combined camp, students will learn basketball skills such as proper shooting, dribbling, rebounding, passing techniques and team building. Students will also learn the grappling-based form of martial arts and build skills like confidence, focus, and discipline. Classes will be separated into different age/skill groups to participate in each sport for two hours, then switch to the other sport for the remaining two hours. Students will need to wear gym clothes, socks, tennis shoes and bring a water bottle with their name on it.

Outdoor Adventure Day Camp (Ages 11 and up)

July 25 to July 27; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or
Aug. 1 to Aug. 3; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $160

Students will learn the basics of rock climbing, hiking and kayaking as well as how to practice “Leave No Trace” principles, which keep the land and waters clean. Classes will partner with Rock Dimensions for a guided half-day of climbing on “real rock” at Holloway Mountain near Boone, N.C. Students will learn how to properly wear a harness, tie knots, use verbal commands and focus on climbing techniques and safety. Students also will have the opportunity to identify different plant and tree species while on the trail. Emphasis will be “hands-on” learning about fitness, ecology, environmental science, collaboration, communication and teamwork. Additionally, students will enjoy teambuilding activities, explore Lake Rhodhiss by kayak and hike at nearby Valdese Lakeside Park. The sessions will be taught by a certified American Canoe Association L1 Kayaking Instructor/Wilderness First Responder and experienced outdoor recreation professional.

Clay Creations, Arts and Crafts (Ages 5 – 8)

July 31 to Aug. 4; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or
Aug. 7 to Aug. 11; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $100

Students will learn how to roll, coil, sculpt and dry clay. In addition to creating a variety of clay pieces, students also will be introduced to many different types of age-appropriate media including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and weaving.
