Our team uses an experience based learning approach to train students in plant biology, plant nutrition, planting and harvesting methodology, soil fertility, plant vitality, and more. This hands-on class is designed for new or established farmers. It will equip you with the basic scientific, industry, and legal knowledge you need to successfully produce industrial hemp in Western North Carolina.
In this course, you will explore:
Instruction will take place both in the classroom and in the field. There will also be a variety of field trips to local farms and processing facilities.

In the Field Prep and Planting course, you will learn everything you need to know to prepare a field and plant hemp for various CBD delivery methods. While collaborating with local hemp farmers, students will learn how to:
We will also cover sourcing plant materials and will start plants from both clones and feminized seed.
Students will work with an established field hemp crop during the height of the growing season.
This experience-based course will cover:
Working in collaboration with seasoned hemp growers, you will be introduced to conventional, organic and biodynamic methods of hemp production.

As the hemp season winds down, you will learn when and how to harvest your hemp crop. While working in the field, you will be able to evaluate the development of pistils and trichomes to determine the optimal harvest window. We will also discuss the use of laboratory testing to aid in harvest timing.
Following harvest, we will learn how to design and set-up ideal drying, bucking and trimming facilities by touring operations across the region. You will also gain hands-on experience in trimming, bucking and on-farm processing.

Once you know how to grow hemp, it is important to know the basics of running a hemp-based business. This course will teach you the business fundamentals needed to be successful. Topics will include business plan creation, basic business bookkeeping, marketing strategies, and more.
