Nurse Aide I

NurseThis 160-hour course prepares students to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis is placed upon the aging process. Topics that are covered include:

In addition to class/lab participation the course requires demonstration of proficiency of all skills before the student proceeds to the clinical setting. Once the required clinical hours are satisfied, the student will then return to the classroom for final review of skills and completion of mock written and skills competency exam. A certificate of course completion will be presented upon successful completion of the course.

In order to become listed as a Nurse Aide I with the state of North Carolina and satisfy requirements imposed by the Division of Health Service Regulation, the student must successfully pass a two part written & skills state administered examination. A minimum fee of $96 must be submitted to NACES in addition to the application and course completion certificate.

As a Nurse Aide I

The Nurse Aide I performs assigned tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. These tasks include providing personal care, such as bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting. The Nurse Aide I also assists the patient to move around safely, feeds those who cannot feed themselves, provides skin care, takes and records temperatures, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure and observes for and reports any changes in condition to the nurse. Keeping the patient's living area neat and clean, making beds, and caring for supplies and equipment are other important tasks that the nurse aide may do.
