Health Care Technologist Students who have successfully completed Nurse Aide 1 at CCC&TI since 9/30/14 are eligible to sign up for a 110-hour phlebotomy course (regular phlebotomy course is 160-hours). Those who successfully pass this shorter class/lab/clinical phlebotomy course will receive in addition to their Phlebotomy Course Completion Certificate, a Health Care Technology Institute Course Completion Certificate.

By completing this shorter Phlebotomy course which includes clinical with no extra clinical registration fee, in addition to having received their Career Readiness Certificate and become eligible to sit for their Nurse Aide 1 State Competency Exam through Pearson Vue; these students are then eligible to apply to sit for the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) Exam, a nationally recognized organization for certifying phlebotomists.

Upon course completion, students are qualified to work for health care providers in jobs requiring stackable credentials.

Competitive Admissions:

Students, who successfully complete Nurse Aide I training at CCC&TI and become listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide 1 Registry, receive one (1) point toward competitive admission into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at CCC&TI and 10 points toward competitive admission into the Radiology Tech program at CCC&TI.

  • 16-18 years of age – Minor Permission Form
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency – Reading Placement Test: Acceptable Scores: TABE: 10
  • SAT: 300 ASSET: 39 CPT or Accuplacer: 70 Enhanced ACT: 16 Compass: 70
  • Social Security Card – name must match government-issued photo ID
  • Government Issued Photo ID – name must match Social Security Card

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics website:
  • The national median annual pay in 2012 was $29,730.00; or hourly rate of $14.29

  • Employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 27 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform blood work.

  • If I already have my Nurse Aide 1 from another college can I enter this shorter Phlebotomy course and still get my Health Care Technology Institute Course Completion Certificate in addition to my Phlebotomy Course Completion Certificate?
    No, you must have successfully completed the Nurse Aide at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute since 9/30/14.

  • If I already have my Nurse Aide 1 from CCC&TI but it was before 9/30/14, can I enter this shorter Phlebotomy course and still get my Health Care Technology Institute Course Completion Certificate in addition to my Phlebotomy Course Completion Certificate?
    Sorry, but you will not be able to receive the Health Care Technology Institute Course Completion Certificate.

  • What if I do not complete all the required material in this shorter course?
    Then the student would not have completed the entire course and would not receive a Phlebotomy Course Completion Certificate nor a Health Care Technology Institute Course Completion Certificate.

  • What reasons can you give me that I should take this course?
    The knowledge and skills obtained in this course lead the way to:
