Nurse Aide II

This 192-hour two-part course prepares the student to perform more complex nurse aide skills for patients/residents regardless of the setting.

The first 100-hours of this two-part course educates and prepares the student to provide care for patients/residents in a variety of health care settings. Emphasis is on:

  • infection control
  • oropharynegeal suctioning
  • established tracheotomy care
  • observation and maintenance of oxygen therapy
  • enteral nutrition for existing infusions
  • Nursing Assistant II roles with member of the health care team
  • CPR instruction, competency and certification

The remaining 92 hours allow the student practical, "hands on" clinical experience with patients/residents in various health care settings. In addition, written and skills evaluation are administered in order to document student competency. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II through the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

As a Nurse Aid II

The Nurse Aide II performs more complex nurse aide tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.  In addition to basic care responsibilities, the Nurse Aide II provides support to the health care team by assisting the patient with oropharyngeal suctioning, established tracheotomy care, observation and maintenance of oxygen therapy, enteral nutrition, wound care, and urinary and bowel elimination. The Nurse Aide II observes for any changes in the condition of the patient and reports to the nurse.
