Federally-funded TRIO comprises various programs which, since 1965, have promoted opportunity in education.

TRIO/ETS, launched at CCC&TI in 2002, serves 625 middle-school and high-school students.  Its mission is to get academically talented Caldwell County students enrolled in college.

TRIO/SSS has served over 1000 participants at CCC&TI since its inception here in 1993.  Its mission is to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and serve to motivate students towards the successful completion of their post-secondary education.

About TRIO at CCC&TI

The TRIO office comprises TRIO/SSS and TRIO/ETS.   Its purpose is to

  • provide general and strategic direction for TRIO/SSS and TRIO/ETS,
  • leverage the strengths of each program for the benefit of both, and
  • explore new ways that TRIO programs can support the mission of CCC&TI and open educational opportunities for all.

The primary emphasis of TRIO programs is support for current and potential "first-generation college" students. A student is first-generation if neither of his parents earned a four-year degree. TRIO programs are housed at the TRIO Center in B-Annex in Hudson and in the Student Services Building in Boone.
