Iona Carswell Ward

Iona Carswell Ward spent 28 years working in the textile manufacturing industry, working her way up toIona Ward becoming International Product Development Coordinator with a local company.  When the company downsized in 2007, Ward met a fate familiar to many in the Caldwell County area: a layoff.  But it didn’t take her long to decide what to do.

“I was given an opportunity to go back to college and work on a degree,” she says, “and CCC&TI was my first choice.”

Ward, who was 49 at the time of her layoff, enrolled in Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program and says the experience could not have come at a better time.

“I had felt like I was losing my personal identity as an individual after being a wife and mother [and working] in a huge company with stressful responsibilities for 28 years,” she said.  “It was time for a make-over in my professional life.”

Ward says that her experience with the faculty and staff at CCC&TI, along with her fellow students,  assured her that she was getting a quality education.

“The staff and students that go to CCC&TI are top-notch. You are not just a number, but you are a name and a face to your professors,” says Ward. “They care about the quality of education you are receiving and will work with you to make your experience a memorable and profitable one.”

In 2010, Ward graduated with honors from CCC&TI and was employed full-time within three months.  She now works with Rutherford County Schools as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant.

“I have found great satisfaction with the field I studied. Working with children with different disabilities, as well as speech issues, is a blessing every day,” she says.

Ward says that after her positive experience at CCC&TI, she would highly recommend the college to anyone who wants to further their education.

“My education was an unforgettable experience that I will relish all of my life. CCC&TI [offers opportunities] for people of all ages to continue their education and train for a career in an environment that is friendly and professional,” she says. “I would recommend CCC&TI to anyone who wants a top education.”
