Caldwell Early College High School
A collaborative effort between the Caldwell County Schools and Caldwell Community College and Technical
Institute opens the doors of a new high school. The freshman class will concentrate in leadership,
entrepreneurial skills and academic achievement that will culminate in a high school diploma and
college Associate's Degree at the completion of a five-year commitment.
The goal of the Caldwell Early College High School (CECHS) admission process is to select and admit a
diverse group of academically capable students who have a genuine interest in the pursuit of this unique
and rigorous program. Applications and accompanying documentation of prospective applicants will be
reviewed by the Admissions Team. All students will be evaluated based on specific admissions elements
outlined and approved by the Department of Public Instruction and the New Schools Project.
Considerations for admission include:
- CECHS Applications: Well developed and insightful responses written by the student.
- Diversity: Student population that closely reflects the diversity of Caldwell County
- Characteristics: Leadership, potential, intellectual curiosity, need for non-traditional high school
setting, evidence of maturity and self motivation, self-disciplined, ability to work with others, etc.
- Commitment to the duration of the five-year program

Only entry point is rising 9th graders
Credentials
After five years' enrollment commitment:
- High School Diploma
- College Associates Degree
Tuition and Fees
Activity Fee:
$35 per semester (Fall and Spring).
This fee is not refundable unless there is an institutional error.
Campus Services Fee:
$2/course; maximum= $10 per semester
No cost for books or tuition on approved courses
Prerequisites
- Meet college requirements to enter college course work
- Commit for the duration of the five-year program
- Students must apply for admission in eighth grade
Student Population
- Target diverse population of students
- Emphasis on students who will be the first to graduate from college in the family
- Necessary for students to be mature enough to handle a collegiate setting and capable of managing
college-level course work
Student Support
- On-site counselor, instructional facilitator and college liaison
- College development coursework available for students
- High school and Caldwell Community College adult advocates positioned to help students
Curriculum
- College/University Prep High School Course Study
- Community College Associate's Degree Program of Study. College coursework begins in the freshman year.
Most community college credits will be transferable to the universities within The North Carolina system
- Community service and career exploration elements integration
Extracurricular
- Students may participate in sports at their district high school
- Clubs and other activities will be available at the Caldwell Early College and CCC&TI
- based on interest
