Child Care Assistance

The college provides child care assistance (subsidy payments) to help eligible students with child care needs. Subsidies range from one-half to three-fourths of weekly costs, depending on costs and availability of funds.

Day care providers must be licensed centers or registered homes through the County Department of Social Services. Applicants may choose their own childcare providers.

Payment is made directly to the daycare provider monthly after an invoice is received. Students are required to turn in weekly attendance sheets with instructor's signatures. Lack of proof of attendance results in loss of subsidy.

Eligibility Requirements

Single parents, displaced homemakers and students with financial need may apply. Applicants are required to complete a Student Aid form (Pell Grant) application. The Financial Aid Office verifies student need and family contribution. Students with "0" Index are served first. Application packets (for both Caldwell and Watauga Campus) may be obtained from the Financial Aid Office located on the Caldwell Campus.

Watauga students are encouraged to contact the Watauga Financial Aid Officer (Jane Lentz) at the Student Support Center (828-297-2185) for information. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are approved as funding is available.
