The Caldwell Cobras got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning and cruised to their fifteenth win in row, winning 15-0 in seven innings over Catawba Valley Thursday night at LP Frans Stadium in Hickory.
In the top of the first inning, Catawba Valley's Carter Lindsay got a one out double to put the pressure on Caldwell starter Walker Pedante. A walk and hit-by pitch would load the bases, but Pedante would get a strike out and ground out to get out of the inning and hold the Red Hawks scoreless.
In the bottom of the first inning, The Cobras' leadoff batter Bo Davidson hit a solo homerun to give Caldwell an early 1-0 lead. Jacob Bebber's RBI single later in the inning would give Caldwell a 2-0 lead.
The early lead would be all the cushion Pedante would need. From the second inning on, he would only allow one hit and two walks while striking out five to get the complete game victory that was halted after the top of the seventh inning due to the mercy rule.
Davidson would add another RBI to finish with two. Garrison Burress was the other Caldwell player to finish with multiple RBIs, getting a two RBI double in the sixth inning.
The Cobras' Breon Ishmael had three hits; a single, double, and triple to go along with an RBI.
With the victory, Caldwell swept the season series versus Catawba Valley, 3-0. Caldwell has won five straight in the series dating back to last season and leads the all-time series 5-2.
For the Red Hawks, the loss snapped a four-game winning streak.
