Caldwell jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and were never threatened in a 9-1 mercy rule victory over Bryant & Stratton (OH) Thursday afternoon at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, Christa Walsh hit her first of two doubles. Zoey Boston followed with an RBI double to give Caldwell a 1-0 lead. Regan Winkler plated Boston with a single to make the score 2-0 and Skylar Banks followed with a two RBI homerun to give Caldwell a 4-0 advantage after one inning complete.
In the second inning, Kenley Jackson collected an RBI on a single to make the score 5-0. After Walsh's second double, Boston hit a three-run homerun giving the Cobras an 8-0 lead after two innings complete.
Caldwell won the game via the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth inning when Boston got her fifth RBI of the day on a single, pushing the Cobra advantage to 9-1.
Isabelle Curry went the distance in the circle, striking out 13 batters and allowing one unearned run.
