Skylar Banks drove in six runs as Caldwell defeated Corning (NY) 13-6 Friday at the Patrick & Henry Invitational in Danville, VA.
Corning came into the game ranked number one in the NJCAA Division Three pre-season poll. It was the Red Barons first game of the season.
Banks went 3-4 at the plate, including a grand slam home run in the third inning that was part of a six-run inning for Caldwell. The Cobras also got home runs Kaylee Redwine and Christa Walsh. Redwine finished the game 3-4 with a double and two RBI.
Walsh's home run came in the bottom of the first inning and put Caldwell ahead 1-0. The Cobras never trailed in the game and led 9-0 after four innings complete.
Isabelle Curry got the win in the circle while striking out eleven.

Louisburg scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning enroute to a 12-4 victory in five innings over Caldwell in the Patrick & Henry Invitational in Danville, VA on Friday.
After Caldwell was retired in order in the top of first inning., Brianna Tucker led off the bottom of the first inning for Louisburg with a homerun. Darrah Nichols would get a two RBI double, and the Hurricane would score on a sacrifice fly RBI from Edi Austin to lead 5-0.
Kaylee Redwine's RBI single put Caldwell on the board in the top of the third inning. Trailing 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning, the Cobras would strike for three runs. Zoey Boston would hit a solo home run, followed later in the inning by a two-RBI home run by Skylar Banks to make the score 8-4.
Louisburg would answer with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and got a home run from Kennedy Byrd in the bottom of the fifth to win the game 12-4 via the mercy rule.
