Cape Fear handed Caldwell their first lost in Region 10 Division play, overcoming an early deficit and using a late 13-0 run to salt away the game and win 94-77 in Wilmington on Friday night.
The visiting Cobras lead 7-0 early and 15-8 before the Sea Devils took advantage of cold shooting by Caldwell to build a comfortable lead in the first half. Cape Fear led 39-22 thanks to a 10-0 run before Caldwell's Jalen Miller's jumper stopped the bleeding with 5:40 left in the half. The Sea Devils finished the half leading 52-33.
Caldwell trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half before the Cobras put together a run to get back in the game. Toyaz Soloman's jumper in the lane would get the Cobras within single digits at 72-64 with just over ten minutes remaining in the game.
Cape Fear would respond with a 13-0 run over the next 4:30 to push the Sea Devil advantage back over 20 points and end the threat of a Cobra come back.
Cape Fear's Korey Richardson led all scorers with 20. Caldwell was led in scoring by RJ Black and Caleb Mauldin, each with 13.
Cape Fear won their third game in a row. For Caldwell, the loss ended a ten-game winning streak.
The Cobras will face Brunswick on Saturday at 2 p.m.
