Game Recap:

Caldwell scored double-digit runs for the second time in as many days versus Catawba Valley, winning 14-8 on Saturday afternoon in Lenoir.

After scoring a season high 17 runs on Friday against the Red Hawks, Caldwell followed up with 14 enroute to their fourth victory of the 2023 season and their fourth victory in a row over Catawba Valley dating back to last season.

Caldwell led 3-1 after two innings complete. Catawba Valley would score four runs in the top of the third inning, thanks in part to a two-out, three RBI double by the Red Hawks Isaiah Martin.

Trailing 5-3, the Cobras would respond in the bottom of the third inning with five runs. Aaron Gaines had an RBI double, and Steven Smith got a two-out, two RBI double in the inning as Caldwell regained the lead, 8-5.

Caldwell extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning when Breon Ishmael hit a three-run home run.

Hayden Setzer picked up his first win of the season on the mound, pitching four-plus innings, allowing four hits and collecting four strikeouts.

Game three of the weekend series between the Cobras and Red Hawks, scheduled for Sunday in Hickory, was postponed due to rain. A make-up date is to be determined.

Breon Ishmael

Breon Ishmael hit home runs in back-to-back games for Caldwell against Catawba Valley. In Friday's 17-4 victory, Ishmael was 3-5, with a double, a home run, and two RBI. In Saturday's 14-7 victory, Ishmael was 1 for 5 with a home run and four RBI.
