Game Recap:

Catawba Valley took advantage of a Caldwell error with two outs in the bottom of the third inning to score two unearned runs and win game one of a doubleheader by a score of 2-0 Monday at Highland Recreation Center in Hickory.

In the third inning, Catawba Valley's Camryn Bryant reached base with one out when her bunt was mis-fielded by Caldwell. The Red Hawks' Chesney Stikeleather followed with a single to put runners at first and second. After a groundout for the second out of the inning, Catawba Valley's Annie Andrews connected on an infield ground ball that was thrown over first base. Bryant and Stikeleather scored on the errant throw giving the Red Hawks a 2-0 advantage.

Trailing 2-0, Caldwell threatened in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, the Cobras got back-to-back singles from Zoey Boston and Regan Winkler. Catawba Valley would go to relief pitcher Mayson Lail who would get a pop out and strikeout of the next two batters to end Caldwell's threat.

For Caldwell, Lauren Anderson took the loss in the circle, although striking out ten batters and allowing no earned runs.

Game Recap:

Caldwell's Zoey Boston's two RBI homerun in the top of the fifth inning in game two of Monday's doubleheader blew open a one-run game and helped the Cobras earn a 7-1 victory and split the doubleheader with the hosts Catawba Valley.

Leading 2-1 coming into the fifth inning, Caldwell's Lauren Anderson led off by reaching on a bunt single. Following a strikeout, Boston would connect on a homerun to left center field, giving the visitors a 4-1 advantage. Later in the inning, Regan Winkler would double, advance to third on a ground out, and score on a pass ball to give the Cobras a 5-1 lead.

Caldwell would add two insurance runs in the top of the seventh; Boston scored on an error and Bell Curry got an RBI ground out to give Caldwell a 7-1 lead.

For the game, Boston went 2 for 3 with a single and a homerun, two RBI, and two runs scored. Christa Walsh also two hits for the Cobras in the game two victory.

Curry picked up the complete game victory in the circle, striking out six batters while allowing only five hits. In the doubleheader, Caldwell allowed three runs, all unearned.
