CCC&TI Introduces New Leadership Team Members

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute has announced two leadership team hires this week and hosted receptions on both campuses to introduce them.

Dr. Jason Chaffin joined CCC&TI effective Oct. 1 in the role of Chief of Staff. Chaffin previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington. He had served in various roles at Cape Fear since 2005, including Assistant Vice President of Instructional Operations and as an instructor.

Chaffin has earned degrees from Elon University, UNC-Wilmington and East Carolina University. Chaffin said he is looking forward to being a part of the CCC&TI family and living in Western North Carolina.

“I am passionate about community colleges and their mission, having seen first-hand the difference they can make in the lives of the students and communities we serve,” Chaffin said. “My wife, Patty, and I are excited about moving to Caldwell County and being a part of this dynamic community.”

Though a familiar face at CCC&TI, Liz Silvers took on a new role as of Oct. 1 as the new Vice President of Instruction and Chief Academic Officer. Silvers joined the CCC&TI team in 2016 and most recently served as the Executive Director of Accountability and Strategic Initiatives.

Prior to coming to CCC&TI, Silvers spent 24 years at Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine in a variety of roles, including instructor, Interim Vice President of Academics and Interim Dean of Arts and Sciences. Silvers has earned degrees from Lees-McRae University and Appalachian State University.

“CCC&TI is such a special place, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to make a difference for our students and the community,” Silvers said. “Preparing the community for tomorrow’s jobs and challenges is a huge task, but we have a great team and I’m excited to work with them.”

The decades of experience that Chaffin and Silvers bring to their new positions will be a huge asset to the college, CCC&TI President Dr. Mark Poarch said.

“I am confident that Jason and Liz will position the college to continue our great work of supporting students, employees and our communities as we continue to make CCC&TI the best community college in North Carolina,” Poarch said.
