Conversational Spanish I

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will offer “Conversational Spanish I” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 7 to Nov. 30 on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required. The cost of the class is $71. For more information, or to register, call 828-726-2242.

Intro to Sign Language

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will offer “Intro to Sign Language” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from Sept. 19 to Dec. 5 on the CCC&TI – Watauga Campus in Boone. No prior knowledge of sign language is required. The cost of the class is $71. For more information or to register, call 828-263-5370.

Pass Along Plants

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will offer the class “Plant Propagation - Pass Along Plants” on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 11 to Oct. 30 in the Greenhouse. The cost for the class is $71. Students will do an individual propagation project and grow the plants of their choice for a fall/winter garden. Students also will learn to propagate plants from cuttings and take home baby shrubs, herbs, tropical plants and more. To register, or for more info, call 828-726-2242.

Plant Identification

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will offer a “Plant Identification/Plant Materials I” class on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 to Nov. 9 in B-121 on the Caldwell Campus. The cost for the class is $71. Students will:

  • Create an individual plant identification notebook to take home
  • Learn the names of the plants on the CCC&TI Campus
  • Identify plants for your landscape
  • Select plants for specific landscape sites
  • Understand the basics of choosing plants and different needs of plants

Free concert in September

Chris Rosser & River Guerguerian

The Associate of Fine Arts Music program will host its first Fall 2017 Performing Artist Concert at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18 in Room B-100 on the Caldwell Campus. The free concert is open to the public (as seating allows) and will feature Chris Rosser and River Guerguerian, two-thirds of "world music supergroup," Free Planet Radio. Since 2001, Free Planet Radio has been bringing its exciting and innovative world-jazz-classical music blend to both concert stages and classrooms. Based in Asheville, this musical partnership began with a clear mission statement as "the shared vision of three multi-instrumentalists exploring the infinite and seamless relationships between musical cultures through the universal language of sound."

Chilled Seafood Lunch - Watauga Campus

The Culinary Arts program on the Watauga Campus will host a chilled seafood lunch buffet on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The buffet is dine-in or carry out. Cost for the buffet luncheon is $15. Following is the menu:

  • Asian Spice Crusted Tuna
  • Baked Oysters with Balsamic, Arugula and Pine Nuts
  • Baked Clams Oreganata
  • Shrimp Pasta Salad
  • Gravlax
  • Spicy Crabmeat Mousse in Savory Pate Choux
  • Assorted Handmade Crackers and Bread

Culinary Arts' Caldwell Cuisine

The Culinary Arts program will host its next Caldwell Cuisine at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir. Tickets are $21 plus tax per person. The events are open to the public, but diners are required to purchase tickets prior to the event.

The theme will be Southeast Asia – Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia

The menu is:

  • Starter: Miang Yuan (Vietnamese Spring Rolls with chicken, shrimp, Thai basil, cilantro and somen) served with Nahm Jeen Gratiem (sweet chili sauce)
  • Entrée: Choice of Indonesian Chicken Rendang (braised chicken with ginger, lemon grass, chili, onion, garlic, cilantro) served with jasmine rice
    or
    Malaysian Beef Satay (Spiced grilled beef with coriander, cumin, fennel and tamarind) Served with satay sauce and jasmine rice.
  • Dessert: Khoa Niaow Ma Muang (Thai Mango Sticky Rice, sliced ripe mango served over warm sticky rice, topped with sweetened coconut milk)
