Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support students working toward their high school equivalency.
This local grant award is part of more than $7.5 million in grants awarded to nearly 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 44 states that Dollar General serves.
Grant funding will be used to cover testing fees and program and supply cost for 100 Adult Education students in Caldwell or Watauga counties over the course of the academic year. The objective of the initiative, called BOOST or Boosting Opportunities and Options for Student Transitions, is to help students complete their high school equivalency or adult high school diploma and transition to a job-training program. “It is our hope that BOOST will remove financial obstacles for those students who are academically and/or economically challenged,” said Kim Hinton, College and Career Readiness Department Chair. “The assistance could help our students reach goals and provide immediate assistance and access for them to continue the transition to college or work.”
