Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute went ahead early and never looked back in Game 1 of the NJCAA Region X Men's Basketball tournament. The Cobras beat Central Carolina Community College 92-66 Saturday afternoon on its home court in Hudson, leading by double digits most of the game. Quincy Williams led CCC&TI in scoring with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Also leading the way were Uter Moukimou with 14 points, Jonathan Curtis with 12 points and Ashton Smith (Lenoir - West Caldwell HS) with 9 rebounds. Leading the way for Central Carolina was Jonathan Buie with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Up next for CCC&TI will be the winner of Game 2, Sandhills Community College vs. Davidson County Community College, which tipped off at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Region X tournament championship game will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the CCC&TI Caldwell Campus gym in Hudson.
Sandhills Community College took an early lead in Game 2 of the Region X Tournament Saturday night, but Davidson County Community College pulled away in the second half for a 97-77 win. Isiah Gill led Davidson with 19 points, while Sandhills' Will McNeill had 20 points and 9 assists. Davidson County's win sets up a championship match up at 1 p.m. on Sunday against tournament host Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. Davidson and CCC&TI split their regular season games, with each winning at home, and tied for Region X regular season co-champions.
Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute won the Region X tournament Sunday afternoon with an 85-81 win over Davidson County Community College. Jalin Alexander led the Cobras with 30 points, including six of nine from 3-point range and eight for 11 from the free throw line. Tre Williams led Davidson County with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
With the tournament title, CCC&TI will host the District VII tournament next weekend on CCC&TI's campus in Hudson.
