The Branches staff invites you to submit your poetry, prose, and artwork for publication in its vol. 24 issue. All students and residents of Caldwell County and Watauga County are invited to enter.

Prizes, awarded by the editorial jury, are as follows:

Best Literary Entry 

  • Best poem
  • Best prose (max. of 2500 words)

  • Best three dimensional art
  • Cover Art for 25rd edition of Branches

GENERAL RULES:

  1. You may submit in as many categories as you wish. Please limit your submission to 3 per category. Complete a separate entry form (online) for each work submitted.
  2. Entries will be judged "blind."
  3. Deadline for all submissions: March 27, 2020
  4. Winners will be printed in the 24nd edition of Branches. All entries will be considered for publication.

Submission For Fine Art Guidelines

Eligibility:

  • Entrants must be 18 years or older and a resident of Caldwell or Watauga County
    or enrolled in a Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute class.
  • Any two dimensional or three dimensional work may be entered.
  • Artwork must have been completed in the last two years.
  • All artwork must be original work completed by the submitter.
  • Art may not be a copy of another work of art (a painting of Starry Night, for example).
  • Artwork previously submitted for Branches publication is not eligible for resubmission.
  • Entries are limited to three artworks per person. 

Method of Entry:

  1. All submissions must be digital images, and the jury will judge the work by digital image projection.
  2. Actual work will not be accepted.  Digital entries must be copied as .jpg, .tiff, .gif formats to a CD.
  3. Up to three images may be provided for three dimensional work.
  4. All digital entries must be set to a resolution of 300dpi or higher. Work that is not set to the proper resolution will not be considered for publication.
  5. E-mailed submissions will not be accepted. 
  6. All artwork must be submitted with a completed entry submission form.
  7. You will need Adobe Reader to be able to fill out the entry form. To download Adobe Reader for free.

Assistance making digital images will be provided.  Contact an art instructor for information.

  • Digital prints will be made of selected artwork for display
  • A Branches show will be held on each campus
  • Digital prints will become property of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute
  • By entering this competition, the artist agrees to publication in Branches and to reproduction of his or her image by Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute
  • Up to ten (10) copies of each image may be produced and may be used by CCCTI for display, promotion, and fundraising

Submission For Poetry and Prose Guidelines

You may submit poetry, short stories and creative nonfiction.  All literary submissions must be submitted electronically.

  • Entrants must be 18 years or older and a resident of Caldwell or Watauga County
    or enrolled in a Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute class.
  • All entries must be original work written by the submitter.
  • Any work previously submitted for Branches publication is not eligible for resubmission.
  • Entries are limited to three per person. 

Method of Entry:

  1. All works of poetry or prose must be submitted electronically by attaching the online form and your work submissions to branches@cccti.edu email account.
  2. In the text of your email, please include all the information from the attached entry form, including the permission statement, OR include an electronic copy of the completed entry form.
  3. All entries must be received by March 27, 2020
  4. You will need Adobe Reader to be able to fill out the Submission Form.
