Mission:

The Paralegal Technology program plays a pivotal role in Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s mission in Caldwell County.

Providing effective and affordable instruction in paralegal technology; Offering educational opportunities to all who enter “the open door” to improve the educational well-being of individuals and the community.

The mission of the Paralegal Technology program of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute includes—but is not limited to—the following goals:

  • To deliver consistently high-quality instruction to students in the paralegal technology program at a convenient time and place.
  • To provide a high quality paralegal program.
  • To provide high quality certificate, diploma, and associate degree in the paralegal program.
  • To provide general interest paralegal courses for students within the service area.

The Paralegal Technology curriculum prepares individuals to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing routine legal tasks and assisting with substantive legal work. A paralegal/legal assistant may not practice law, give legal advice, or represent clients in a court of law.

CCC&TI offers several different educational programs in this area:

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute Paralegal Program is designated as a Qualified Paralegal Studies Program by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification. Graduates earning an A.A.S. degree are eligible to take the Paralegal Certification Exam administered by the North Carolina State Bar.

  • Family Law
  • Wills, estates and trusts
  • Commercial Law

Career Information

The Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook states, "Employment of paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow 8 percent from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations. This occupation attracts many applicants, and competition for jobs will be strong. Experienced, formally trained paralegals with strong computer and database management skills should have the best job prospects." (Visited 2016).
