This course introduces the basic operating procedures of automated cutting equipment to cut fabric into parts according to specifications in the upholstery and furniture industry using the state-of-the-art Lectra IX Mosaic automated cutting machine.
Utilizing advance manufacturing technology, Lectra’s high-performing cutting machine cuts through foam up to 1 inch thick and automatically compensates for any distortion and adjusts the cutting path, ensuring that patterned pieces match perfectly when assembled.
Local furniture companies are increasingly using automates cutting machines to facilitate just-in time (JIT) and mass production processes while fulfilling last-minute orders with ease. Due to the skill required to operate automated cutters, experienced automated cutting operators are in high-demand.
Emphasis is placed on the operation of automated cutting equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to maintain and operate the automated cutter with marker for maximum yield. Classroom and hands-on experience include, but not limited to:
