Google is a research tool used to find information on the World Wide Web. Specifically, it is a search engine listing web pages relevant to a search term. Each time a query is entered into Google, the engine searches 3 billion web pages, completing 200 million such queries per day! Google is the world's most popular search engine because:

• it indexes more web pages than any other engine (approximately 45-50% of the web)
• results are considered relevant and reliable by the information community
• the engine's advertising is text-based
