Scholarships Awarded by Financial Need

Thomas M. Bernhardt Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by an anonymous donor in 1992 in memory of Thomas M. Bernhardt, a native of Lenoir, a teacher and school headmaster who died at the age of thirty-nine.

Blackwelder Foundation Memorial Scholarship

The Blackwelder Foundation established this scholarship in 1986 as a memorial to Dr. Vern Blackwelder. The recipient of this needs-based scholarship is to be a Caldwell County resident who is pursuing a degree in nursing or another medical field.

Coffey Foundation Scholarship

The Coffey Foundation established this scholarship fund in 1978 as a memorial to Mr. Harold Coffey. The recipients of this needs-based scholarship must be residents of Caldwell and contiguous counties. Preference is given to students in nursing and other medical programs.

Vester Corpening Scholarship

Established in 1980 by the Ebony Kinship Club, this memorial fund for Caldwell County students is based on financial need.

M. L. DeVane Scholarship

The Ebony Kinship Club of CCC&TI established this fund in 1975 to aid a student enrolled full-time at this institution. It was further stipulated that the recipient must have completed 30 credit hours while maintaining an overall average of 2.5 or higher.

Ben W. and Dixie Glenn Farthing Memorial Scholarship

Established by their family, this fund honors the memory and tradition of Mr. and Mrs. Farthing, who were from Valle Crucis in Watauga County. Recipients must be enrolled in nursing and must be residents of Watauga, Avery, or Mitchell counties who do not use tobacco products.

Thomas C. and Annie M. High Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was first established in 1986 as a memorial to Mr. High. This financial needs-based scholarship will be awarded to a student with academic promise who lives in southern Caldwell County.

Beverly Holt Scholarship

Established by friends and family as a memorial to Beverly Holt.  This needs-based scholarship will provide assistance for students enrolled in the Cardio-Vascular Sonography program.

Don Jensen Habilitation Scholarship

This needs-based scholarship was established in 2002 by Tom Brittain to honor Don Jensen.  The scholarship will provide full-tuition to deserving students enrolled in any habilitation program.  Preference is given to students enrolled in a co-op program or working in a habilitation facility. 

Myron L. Moore, Jr. Scholarship

The Lenoir Mirror Company established this needs-based scholarship in 1983 to honor Mr. Moore.

Samuel William Orlando Scholarship

Established as a memorial by the family and friends of Sam Orlando, an instructor on the Watauga Campus of CCC&TI.  This needs-based scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled on the Watauga campus who has taken or plans to take at least two religion courses.  No specific major or GPA is required.

Carl and Olene Prestwood Scholarship

This needs-based scholarship was originally established as a memorial to Mr. Prestwood by his family and friends.

Dr. C. L. Robbins Educational Scholarship

Students enrolling at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute are eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Robbins Foundation. Applications may be secured from the financial aid office at CCC&TI or from the Trustee of the Robbins Foundation.

Thomas M. Robbins Nursing Scholarship

This needs-based, endowed scholarship for nursing students enrolled in CCC&TI was established in 1998.

Mrs. D.L. Snyder Scholarship

Established in 1997 by the family of Mrs. Snyder on the occasion of her 95th birthday to provide scholarships for needy students enrolled in allied health programs. Recipients must be enrolled in an allied health program and have a 3.0 GPA on a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Dan and Ila Stallings Scholarship

Established in 2001 by the family and friends of Dan and Ila Stallings.  The scholarship is awarded to a student with documented financial need with first preference given to a fine arts major who has completed at least 24 semester hours and maintains a B-average.

Dent and Louise Sullivan Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student with financial need who is enrolled in an accounting program.  First preference is given to a student enrolled in the college transfer program who intends to transfer to Appalachian State University to pursue an accounting degree. 

Wilson Family Scholarship

Established in 1997 to honor Hugh and Martha Wilson by their children.  This needs-based scholarship will provide scholarships and other aid to students from Caldwell County.
