Welcome to Distance Learning!
Welcome to the Online Orientation for Distance Learning at Caldwell Community
College and Technical Institute! The purpose of this orientation is to provide
some basic information about what distance learning is, how it works, and
how to succeed in your distance learning course.
NOTE: If you have a hybrid Spanish Lab you do not
need to step through this orientation. You will be using a different online
software package to access the online version of your lab.
Online Orientation Objectives
Students who complete this online orientation should be able to:
- Identify and describe the learning styles for successful online students.
- List the computer (hardware and software) and modem requirements for taking an online course, including criteria for selecting an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- Demonstrate basic computer procedures, including:
- starting an application and creating a document;
- naming, saving, retrieving, and revising a document;
- copying documents from the hard drive to floppy drives and vice versa;
- saving, opening, and placing documents inside directories and subdirectories;
- opening and working with more than one application at a time;
- using self-help resources to diagnose and correct common hardware, software, and printing problems, including protecting against computer viruses.
- Demonstrate basic word processing operations, including:
- entering text,
- editing text
- copying text
- moving text
- Demonstrate basic Internet navigation and messaging procedures, including:
- obtaining technical assistance from an ISP;
- composing, sending, retrieving, reading, responding to, and forwarding e-mail messages;
- attaching files to e-mail messages;
- finding, accessing, and using resources on the Internet and World Wide Web.
- Discover the basic information, communication, and testing features of the Blackboard course delivery platform.
- Give examples of the student support services and resources necessary to their success as online students, including:
- library/learning resources and services;
- traditional enrollment and developmental services (such as registration, counseling, advising, financial aid, remediation);
- technical support and services.
- Read and comply with the CCC&TI Academic
Integrity Policy.
Remember: After you step through these objectives, you must login to
each of your distance learning courses and complete the 5 question quiz
on the orientation. To complete orientation you must successfully complete
the Orientation quiz for each course you are enrolled int. Orienation
must be completed by Aug. 24 to ensure you remain enrolled in your distance
learning class or classes.
