The NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center offers employment services for the public in partnership with local employers and partner agencies. Offered at no cost to the public, the services and resources include one-on-one career advisement, mock interviews, in-depth resume assistance, computer access and comprehensive job listings. The center also will be working with local employers to educate them on services offered by the center, specialized training opportunities for both current and future workforce, and cooperative education and internship opportunities to help employers connect with CCC&TI students.

The center has two locations:

  • For the general public - On the ground floor at the back entrance of the Commerce Center (1909 Hickory Blvd., Lenoir), which also houses the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce and Caldwell County Economic Development Commission. Hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. 8:00 to 12 noon on Friday. Phone: 828-759-4680

  • For CCC&TI students - In the Academic Advising Center in F Building on the CCC&TI Campus in Hudson. Hours: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Phone: 828-726-2717

WorkKeys & Career Readiness Certificate

How can you prove you have the necessary skills to be successful in the workplace? How can you distinguish yourself from other candidates? How can you increase your opportunity for career change and advancement?

The North Carolina Career Readiness Certificate is a portable, nationally recognized credential that verifies that an individual has the foundation skills necessary to be successful entering employment or a training program. Based on ACT's proven WorkKeys system, the CRC gives job seekers proof of their workplace skills.

WorkKeys, a system of real world workplace assessments, can act both as a tool to increase an individual's employability skills and give employers the tools necessary to plan, screen, select, train and promote the appropriate candidates. Assessment results can be beneficial information to may employers. To learn more about the advantages of CRC, please access the - www.act.org/workkeys/ website.

The Assessment

WorkKeys is the centerpiece of the National Career Readiness System. This exciting initiative is based on WorkKeys skills levels in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. Preparation

Career Ready 101 - An online study program specifically designed upon WorkKeys and CRC system. Accessible from anywhere students have Internet access. For more information, visit www.careerready101.com

CRC Lab - Students learn how to use Career Ready 101, receive individual instruction on each component of the CRC and how to maximize the benefits of CRC.

Human Resources Development (HRD) Classes

Employability Skills

  • Budget Wisely
    This course is designed to cover cost cutting tips for anyone's budget, including household and family expenses.
  • Career Seeker Lab
    This self-paced course allows students to work through modules covering such topics as resume writing, job searching, applications and interview techniques. Students may also enhance their keyboarding skills and practice the job skills assessments (WorkKeys) through computer-based programs.
  • Career Ready 101 Overview
    This short overview is designed to expose students to the skill building program Career Ready 101. Students will learn how to use the software program to work on all aspects of career planning and preparation.

Computer Skills

  • Computers for the Workplace
    This class is for those who have little or no experience using the computer. This class emphasizes the role of information technology in the world of work and enhances employability by teaching basic computer literacy skills.

These classes are offered at NO COST to individuals who meet ONE of the conditions below:
  • Unemployed
  • Received notice of a pending layoff
  • Working and eligible for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit
  • Working and earning at/below 200% of Federal poverty guidelines

By combining the strengths and experiences of the county's top workforce agencies, NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Centers can provide quick and thorough services that address local needs. Employers can call to discuss their employment and training needs.

Individual Services

NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center offers a comprehensive package of services you can use on your own or with the assistance of a NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center team member. It's the single place to address your employment and training needs. Choose among the following services:

  • Resume consultation and preparation

Youth Services

Education is the key to a good job or a successful career. Research shows that earnings of a high school graduate are twice that of a non-high school graduate; earnings for a two-year associate degree average nearly three times more.

NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center provides information about and referrals to a number of services designed to help young people complete high school, receive a High School Equivalency, enroll in a community college, and/or receive training necessary for a good job. NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center team members can help you map out a plan for getting your high school diploma and any additional education or occupational training you may need.

NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center team members can refer you to a number of services that can help you overcome obstacles such as childcare, transportation, financial, etc.) in your education and career plans. NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Centers provide services to help you explore the many options and opportunities available to you.
