- Basic Skills Faculty/Staff Handbook
Each Basic Skills faculty and staff member should have a hard copy of the Basic Skills Faculty/Staff Handbook. For the convenience of our instructors, staff, and volunteers, we have made the entire handbook available online.

GED Prep Info is a site that has free GED practice questions and study tips. It also has detailed explanations to the answers to the questions.

This site has highly interactive activities about this human body including the nervous system, senses, skeletal system, muscles, etc.

This site is an open and free forum where parents and teachers can find professionally designed, next-generation, educational material to share with their children.
- The Story Place
The children's digital library. This website is fun for all ages, but it will be particularly useful in Family Literacy and/or Comp. Ed. classes. According to the website, "Children and their parents have for years enjoyed attending story times, checking out books, and participating in a number of other educational, entertaining, and participatory programs. StoryPlace, an interactive website, came about to provide children with the virtual experience of going to the library and participating in the same types of activities the library offers."
- Jan's Illustrated Computer Literacy 101
This is a great online tutorial for individuals who would like to learn the basics of computing. It has text instruction, illustrations, and practice exercises. It is best viewed in full screen mode.
- Quia Web
This website has a directory of thousands of online activities such as flash cards, word scrambles, word searches, etc. There is a yearly subscription fee and a free trial version.

Lynn LeFever, Director of Basic Skills in Watauga County, recommended this site as being very useful for grammar and writing resources. Among the many resources it has are PowerPoint presentations on various grammar and writing topics. The site is maintained by Professor of English Charles Darling for English courses at Capital Community College and for the general online public.
