Academic Support Centers
The Academic Support Center provides quality academic support for students at Caldwell Community College and Technical
Institute. We facilitate learning by addressing individual needs, recognizing achievements, and helping students
set realistic and reachable goals throughout their coursework at the college. All tutoring services are free to
our students.
Tutoring Services
Virtual Tutoring Room

- You do not need a video camera or microphone to participate
- To ask questions, use the chat feature. You will not be able to use your microphone to ask questions in order to
limit audio issues
- You can join the meeting on your computer or phone
- Virtual Tutoring is always a drop in service; no appointment necessary

- Appointments are limited to one hour
- Appointments are for one student at a time only
- Appointments are necessary for Mask-to-Mask tutoring only. You are still welcome to drop-in to Virtual
Tutoring whenever it is open

Subject-Based Tutoring 24/7
- Online tutoring is available through ThinkingStorm via Moodle.

ThinkingStorm offers online tutoring in a variety of course subjects. This service can be accessed from the Moodle Login page or
the Student Support Section of your Moodle course. Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute students receive 10 free
hours of tutoring through ThinkingStorm per semester. Please contact the Director of the Academic Support Center to request any
additional online tutoring hours.

College Placement Test Review
- Students who want to review prior to taking the college placement exam can visit the Academic Support Center to sign up for
an online diagnostic test in PLATO® for Math, English, and writing.
- Students can visit the Academic Support Center for Accuplacer sample-questions and practice handouts, NC DAP Math Sample
Questions, and NC DAP Study App information.
- Students who want to re-take the college placement exam must visit the Academic Support Center to sign up for 10 hours of
required review through PLATO®.
Additional Diagnostic Test Reviews
- PRAXIS®: Students who want to review prior to taking the Praxis® exam can visit the Academic Support Center to sign up for an
online prep program through PLATO®.
- TABE®: Students who want to review prior to taking the TABE® exam can visit the Academic Support Center to sign up for an
online prep program through PLATO®.
- TEAS®: Students who want to review prior to taking the TEAS® exam can visit the Academic Support Center to sign up for an
online prep program through PLATO® or can study onsite with a copy of the TEAS® prep book.
The Writing Center
The Writing Center is designed to provide writers with the tools necessary to write and communicate effectively, thereby promoting
success throughout the college as well as in the work place. Visit the Writing Center webpage

Computer and Printing Services
The Academic Support Center has computers, scanning capabilities, and printing available for student use. The computers are updated
each semester and many have course-specific programs installed. Black-and-white and color printing are also available, but require a
print card which can be purchased in the centers.
Workshops
The Academic Support Center offers a variety of study skills and subject-area workshops. Please check back soon to view a schedule
